China expands visa-free transit policy

The Xinzheng International Airport in Zhengzhou, the Sanyi International Airport in Lijiang and the Mohan Railway Port are eligible for the 144-hour visa-free transit policy, as announced by the National Immigration Administration on July 15. As of now, the number of ports eligible for the China's 144-hour visa-free transit policy has increased to 37.

According to the announcement, effective July 15, the 144-hour visa-free transit policy has been implemented at the airport in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, and the region of stay covers the administrative region of Henan Province; and nine cities or autonomous prefectures in Yunnan Province, including Kunming, Lijiang, Yuxi, Pu'er, Chuxiong, Dali, Xishuangbanna, Honghe and Wenshan, have been expanded to fall within the scope of the 144-hour visa-free transit policy.

As of now, the National Immigration Administration has implemented the 144-hour visa-free transit policy at 37 ports in locations such as Beijing; Tianjin; Shijiazhuang and Qinhuangdao in Hebei Province; Shenyang and Dalian in Liaoning Province; Shanghai; Nanjing and Lianyungang in Jiangsu Province; Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou and Zhoushan in Zhejiang Province; Zhengzhou in Henan Province; Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Jieyang in Guangdong Province; Qingdao in Shandong Province; Chongqing; Chengdu in Sichuan Province; Xi'an in Shaanxi Province; Xiamen in Fujian Province; Wuhan in Hubei Province; and Kunming, Lijiang and Xishuangbanna in Yunnan Province.

Citizens from 54 countries, including the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, holding valid international travel documents and onward tickets with confirmed dates and seats within 144 hours, can transit through the above-mentioned ports to a third country or region without needing a visa and stay within the specified area for up to 144 hours. During their stay, they can engage in short-term activities such as tourism, business, visiting and family visits (those that comply with the mutual visa-free agreements signed with China or the unilateral visa-free policies of China shall follow their regulations).
