Music cultural relics on display in Shenyang

On September 23,the Exhibition of Ancient Chinese Music Cultural Relics kicked off at the Liaoning Provincial Museum.

This is the first large-scale cultural relic exhibition jointly organized by the Liaoning Provincial Museum and the Henan Museum.It exhibits 185 ancient music cultural relics and presents the development landscape of Chinese music art in thousands of years in sequence of historical development.

Based on the historical stage characteristics of the development of ancient Chinese music culture, the exhibition comprises five units including primitive social music, music in the Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties, music in the Han, Wei, Jin and Northern and Southern dynasties, music in the Sui and Tang dynasties, and music in the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties.

The exhibition showcases representative musical cultural relics from various historical periods from the Neolithic Age to the Qing Dynasty.One of the highlights is the Jiahu Bone Flute unearthed at the Jiahu Site in Wuyang County, Henan Province.The bone flute, with a total length of 23.6 centimeters, is made by the ulnar bones of cranes and is the earliest and most fully preserved wind instrument discovered in China to date and is known as "the first Chinese flute".
