Shenyang has a new internet-famous spot. Here are a lot of surprises waiting for you.
The century-old Erduoyan Hutong,or Ear Canal Hutong,in Shenyang Fangcheng Cultural Tourism Area, recently shed its old appearance and took on a new look.
After several months of renovation, this old hutong, named for its narrowness like an ear canal, was reopened.
Over the past hundred years, the Erduoyan Hutong was a convenient alley where small vendors gathered, and it also carried the marketplace memories of generations of Shenyang people.
Fangcheng's upgrade has brought new life to this long-silent old hutong. By preserving traditional elements like gray bricks, black tiles and wooden windows, and through wall repairs, underground utilities and landscape redesign, it keeps the old charm of Shenyang while adding fresh cultural meaning.
The Erduoyan Hutong, located on the lively Zhongjie Pedestrian Street, features a narrow entrance, but upon entering,it opens up a distinct world.
On the opening day,the "Baigongfang —Home of Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritors" also settled in this hutong.
Inside the hutong, rows of traditional handicraft shops and booths showcasing intangible cultural heritage are arranged in sequence. They feature traditional snacks from old Shenyang, intangible cultural heritage skills, and cultural and creative and products. The appearance of the old shops have been meticulously restored, vividly recreating the bustling atmosphere of the Siping Street in old Shenyang.
In the future, training courses on intangible cultural heritage skills and craft salons will take place in the hutong. Veteran artisans will also be invited to take on apprentices and pass on their skills here. Moreover, 3D and other technologies will be introduce to display intangible cultural heritage works.
Go and take a hutong walking tour with your friends!
