The world-renowned BMW Group announced at its annual meeting held on the evening of December 16 that three new or upgraded plants will be opened in Shenyang and Zhangjiagang, China next year.
In July 2018, Great Wall Motor and BMW Automotive officially signed a joint venture operation contract in Berlin, Germany, investing CNY 5.1 billion to establish Spotlight Automotive. In October of the same year, BMW Brilliance announced an additional investment of EUR 3 billion in Shenyang for the construction of the new BMW Brilliance Shenyang Tiexi Plant Project and the upgrade of the BMW Brilliance Dadong Plant. All three projects will be completed and put into operation in 2022.
In recent years, BMW has continued to accelerate its investment in China. Nicolas Peter, member of the board of management of BMW AG responsible for finance said that since 2010, BMW Brilliance alone has invested a total of more than CNY 73 billion in its Shenyang production site, which is the largest production site of the BMW Group. In addition, BMW has set up innovative R&D bases in four cities in China, forming the largest R&D network outside Germany.
With China's "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals", green and low-carbon will also be an important investment direction for BMW in China. At this annual meeting, Peter announced that BMW will put into production its second electric vehicle in Shenyang next year, further enhancing China's position as one of the BMW Group's three global production bases for new energy vehicles.
Peter said that now, China is unswervingly promoting high-quality development and advocating circular economy. China is the best choice and optimal partner for BMW Group in its transformation towards electrification, digitalization and sustainability.
