Good news!The airfield area for the second runway project at Shenyang Taoxian International Airport has started construction and is expected to be completed by 2029.
The second runway project at Shenyang Taoxian International Airport is a key initiative during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period for Liaoning Province and Shenyang, as well as a century-long project vital to long-term development. Designed with a target year of 2035, the project will support an annual passenger throughput of 45 million and a cargo and mail volume of 400,000 tons upon completion.
The construction of the second runway at Shenyang Taoxian International Airport comprises the following components.
●A new runway, with a length of 3,600 meters and a width of 45 meters, will be built 2,140 meters south of the existing one. Its airfield area class will be 4E, and a precision approach lighting system category II will be set up for the main landing direction.
●The main construction scope includes 2 parallel taxiways, an airport apron with 98 aircraft stands, as well as supporting facilities such as air cargo buildings, water supply, power supply, communication, and fire-fighting and rescue systems.
●In addition, supporting projects including air traffic control, fuel supply and postal services will be constructed.
The construction works, including foundation treatment and earthwork excavation and backfilling for the airfield area, will be prioritized for implementation in the near term. The project is expected to be completed by 2029.
After the completion of the second runway, Shenyang Taoxian International Airport's peak-hour capacity will significantly increase, leading to a qualitative leap in aviation support capabilities and operational efficiency. This will accelerate the clustering of industries such as airport logistics, cross-border e-commerce and high-end manufacturing, providing strong momentum for Shenyang's development into an internalized central city in Northeast Asia and for the comprehensive revitalization of Liaoning Province.
