On August 4, good news came from China Mobile Shenyang Branch, all 22 platforms of Shenyang Metro Line 9 opened 5G signals, making Metro Line 9 the first metro line in the province with full platform 5G signal coverage.

TV shows can be cached in the blink of an eye

At 10 o'clock that morning, the reporter followed Liu Yanming and Shi Jiaqing, the staff of China Mobile Shenyang Branch, and went to Metro Line 9 Jilihujie Station. On the platform, the two staff members connected the professional test equipment and opened the mobile phone speed test software. On the 5G signal test phone Shi Jiaqing was holding, the number displayed in the download rate column soared to more than 1.3 Gbps, reaching a maximum of 1387 Mbps. At the same time, the upload rate can also reach over 80 Mbps. 

The staff also conducted live HD video webcast and return, HD video calls, and other 5G service tests on site, all of which achieved the expected results. 

The reporter opened a hot TV series on a video website, using 1080 p Blu-ray quality to play. The picture is very smooth and it was cached in the phone's memory in the blink of an eye. 

At present, 22 stations of Shenyang Metro Line 9 have achieved full coverage of 5G signals, and citizens can use 5G signals to surf the Internet while waiting for the subway. 

All four metro lines will open 5G by the end of the year

Lu Ronghui, the person in charge of the construction site said that in order to reduce the impact of 5G construction to the operation of the subway, all construction personnel entered the construction site between 0:00 and 3:00 and completed the network construction of 550 5G points in Line 9 in 20 days, 40 days ahead of the expected schedule. 

According to the plan, by the end of the year, China Mobile Shenyang Branch will realize the coverage of the 5G mobile communication network of the four existing metro lines in Shenyang. 

"After achieving 5G signal coverage, we will build a new-generation 5G-led information infrastructure system, create a 5G public transportation hub in Shenyang, accelerate the promotion of people-to-people communications, things-to-things connectivity, man-machine interconnection, and explore new applications with 5G as the core," said the person in charge of China Mobile Shenyang Branch.

Why can't the base station tower be seen in the metro station? 

Citizens entering the metro station will certainly wonder, where the 5G signal comes from, since they can't see any tall base station towers in the station. 

Lu Ronghui, the person in charge of the construction site said that the metro 5G network construction all uses distributed pico site base stations. The base stations are very small, with the external part even smaller than a human palm, and the large ones are similar to a brick. 

Shenyang Metro Line 9 uses an average of 25 distributed pico site base stations per station, and each distributed pico site base station consists of base band units, RHUB, pRRU, fibre-optical and network cables. Based on complex calculations and planning, these base stations are all hidden in different corners of the metro station to provide continuous signal coverage. Citizens will not even notice the existence of the base station as they travel through. 

Why choose to open 5G on Line 9 first? 

At present, Shenyang Metro has opened 1,2,9 and 10 four metro lines. Why is the 5G signal first opened in Metro Line 9? The person in charge of China Mobile Shenyang Branch said that the construction of Shenyang Metro Line 1 and Line 2 is earlier and the difficulty of 5G construction is greater than that of Line 9 and Line 10, so priority is given to Line 9 and Line 10 for 5G network construction. Recently, the 5G network will be opened for all platforms of Shenyang Metro Line 10.
