The Production Situation of Shenyang’s Cultural and Related Businesses Above the Designated Size is Generally Stable in the First Quarter

Recently, it was learned by the reporter from Shenyang Statistics Bureau that since the beginning of this year, the people of Shenyang have been giving first priority to stability and pursuing progress on the basis of stability, making efforts to overcome the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and actively promoting a steady start in the economic field. According to the latest feedback data from Liaoning Provincial Bureau of Statistics, in the first quarter, the production situation of cultural and related businesses above the designated size in Shenyang was generally stable, and the number of enterprises continued to increase. Among others, the development of new business forms of culture took on a good trend, and the growth rate of business revenue was above the national average.

The number of entities increased. In the first quarter, Shenyang’s enterprises above the designated size in the cultural industry achieved business revenue of CNY 6.92 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 0.5%. Among them, the business revenue of cultural manufacturing sector reached CNY 770 million, a year-on-year decrease of 29.2%; the business revenue of cultural wholesale and retail sector reached CNY 2.93 billion, a year-on-year increase of 11.5%; and the business revenue of cultural services reached CNY 3.22 billion, a year-on-year decrease 0.6%. At the end of the first quarter, the number of Shenyang’s enterprises above the designated size in the cultural industry increased by 35.

The cultural services accounted for the largest proportion. In terms of business revenue, in the first quarter, the business revenue of cultural services in Shenyang accounted for the largest proportion of the total business revenue of cultural businesses in Shenyang, reaching 46.6%, followed by the proportion of the business revenue of cultural wholesale and retail sector at 42.3%, while the business revenue of cultural manufacturing sector accounted for the smallest proportion at 11.1%. The proportion of the business revenue of cultural wholesale and retail sector lagged behind that of cultural services by 4.3 percentage points, 2.4 percentage points and 3.0 percentage points lower than that of the same period of the previous year and that of the whole previous year respectively. In terms of the number of entities, at the end of the first quarter, the number of Shenyang’s entities engaged in cultural services accounted for the highest proportion of the total number of Shenyang’s entities engaged in cultural businesses, reaching 63.5%, followed by the proportion of the number of Shenyang’s entities engaged in cultural wholesale and retail at 25.3%, while the number of Shenyang’s entities engaged in cultural manufacturing industry accounted for the smallest proportion at 11.2%.

The development of key sectors took on a good trend. In terms of different sectors, in the first quarter, Shenyang’s core cultural sectors achieved business revenue of CNY 5.17 billion, a year-on-year increase of 5.3%, 5.8 percentage points higher than the city's average, and accounting for 74.7% of the city's total, taking on a good trend of development.

The development of new business forms of culture took on a good trend. Among the 16 Internet cultural sub-sectors with obvious new business forms of culture, Shenyang involves 8 sub-sectors (radio and television integrated broadcast control, Internet search services, other Internet information services, other cultural and art businesses, application software development, other telecommunication services, Internet advertising services, and Internet life service platforms), an increase of 1 sub-sector over the whole previous year. At the end of the first quarter, Shenyang had 32 enterprises in new business forms of culture, an increase of 6 enterprises over the end of the previous year; the business revenue of these enterprises reached CNY 440 million, a year-on-year increase of 10.7%, which was 11.2 percentage points higher than the city's average and 4.4 percentage points higher than the national average (6.3%), accounting for 6.4% of the city's business revenue of cultural businesses.

Heping District and Shenhe District maintained the dominant position. In terms of the proportion of business revenue of each district (county or city) in the city's total, in the first quarter, the total business revenue of Heping District and Shenhe District reached CNY 4.85 billion, accounting for more than 70.1% of the city's; there were 195 enterprises in the cultural industry in the two districts, accounting for 53.1% of the city's total. The development momentum of Yuhong District and Dadong District was relatively good, with business revenue growth by 217.4% and 12.0% respectively, ranking in the forefront of Shenyang.
