Shenyang will provide subsidies to local parents who have a third child, according to an implementation plan issued by the Health Commission of Shenyang and the Shenyang Finance Bureau.

Under the plan, which took effect on Jan 20, each family can receive 500 yuan ($73) per month until their third child turns 3 years old, according to the commission's website. The plan was published online on Tuesday.

Eligibility for the subsidy requires that both parents — and the third child — be registered as permanent residents of Shenyang.

The money will be distributed once a year, covering July 1 to June 30 of the following year.
